Detection and Delineating of Hydrocarbon Contaminants by Using Time and Frequency Analysis of Ground Penetrating Radar

This paper provides the results of using ground penetrating radar (GPR) method to detect hydrocarbon products (diesel and gasoline) in a controlled lab test. The work addresses environmental problem generated by uncontrolled leakage subsequent contamination plumes subsoil. Most research proposes geophysical techniques evaluate but some controversial were discussed on how it affected electrical dielectric response depending excitation non-invasive method. present focuses comparative analysis signal attributes GPR traces determine under what premises detection is properly done. These from time frequency domain as attenuation coefficient, instantaneous amplitude have been considered analyze three different soil samples. laboratory tests consist buried liquid (total petroleum, so called TPH) bags sample boxes reveal range target consistency data test regarding characterization delimiting position depth. Instantaneous time-frequency shift are revealed promising accurate TPH presence. Numerical simulation also carried out interpret reflections radargrams confirm experimental trends benefits above domain.
